Holycrapholycrapherewego, Ravna mutters to herself, slouching down at the base of a nearby tree. She strains to hear for sounds of approaching enemies who are now keenly aware of their presence. A rill of sweat trickles down her brow, stinging her eye. An ant soldiers up the back of her hand, but she dare not shake it off, as the flask she clutches contains a most effective and fast-acting acid. She waits, and all around the profusion of verdure that is the forest twitters, creaks, and buzzes like nothing had disrupted it.

The early morning sun shines high in the sky. Birds chirp, squirrels bark and chitter back and forth. The party sits still and silent, on edge for the slightest sound out of the ordinary. The only sound that can be heard is clearly coming from Surallel, whose breakfast seems to be in a state of war with his body. A breeze passes through the forest, rustling the trees and giving an impression of heavy movement. Still, nothing comes. For half an hour, the party waits, in silence. No sign is seen or heard in answer to the shrill call of the trap. Feeling that that if something were to happen, it would have by now, the party slowly comes out of hiding. With a shrug, Rothgar takes the point and leads the party back on track. Another hour passes as the party wends its way through the thick forest. Rothgar abruptly stops when he hears voices. He raises his hand signalling a halt. Before anyone can ask why, they too hear the voices. There are two, male, speaking common. They seem to be arguing about something. The party, quietly follows the voices, and sees two humans standing in a small clearing. They are armed, and appear to be wearing studded leather armor. What? Are you a professional moron. They have beaks, and feathers. Ridiculous. They have fur. That means: mammals. Wrong. If they have tits, they are mammals. Fur don't mean shit. You ever seen a pair of tits on one? Ugh, no. That don't prove shit. I ain't see your mama's muff either, don't mean she ain't a woman. I will stab you, so help me. Go ahead. I will happily go to my grave if it means you admit you can't win an argument without a fucking knife. They are mammals, deal with it. I can't believe you are gonna argue with me on this. They are not mammals. They lay eggs for crying out loud. Owlbears do not lay eggs. Listen to you. If they laid eggs, how come you never see nests full of the tweeting little shits. eh! Oh YEAH!? YEAH! If owlbears don't lay eggs. Explain this!
At that. One of them pulls a very large egg from his pack. He stands there smirking, smugly. DC 14 Knowledge: Arcana{Spoiler}{Spoiler}An Owlbear is a magical beast. Originally created through some lost magical process, they now breed in the wild. They are well known for their ferocity and short tempers. Being magical creatures, Owlbears do not fit classical definitions for mammals and birds, having features of both. They do lay eggs. DC 19 Knowledge: Arcana{Spoiler}{Spoiler}The man is indeed, holding an egg laid by an Owlbear. Such eggs are generally without value, as Owlbears lay only fertilized eggs and fertilized eggs never prove viable when separated from their parents. Studies on such eggs are lacking however, due to the extreme hazard of trying to separate an egg from its parent. The other looks at the massive egg with curioscity. Then suddenly, he goes very pale. i...i....if that is.....from and owlbear. Wh....wh...won't its mother come for it. psh! Ain't no way she can track me. I am half-druid, sucker. The scene is abruptly interrupted by a loud, very angry roar. Tearing through the forest, at incredible speed, is a large creature. Much of its body is covered in thick fur, reminiscent of a grizzly bear. It's head, shoulders, and forearms, however, are covered in brown and gold feathers. Its face is avian, with large wide eyes and large snapping beak. It runs directly at the men in the clearing. HALF-DRUID!?! SHIT! RUN TOLD YA! THEY LAY EGGS! NOT NOW FUCKTARD! GET RID OF THAT DAMN THING!Both men run as fast as they can away from the creature. The one holding the egg throws it as hard as he can. It flies toward the party, hitting a nearby tree and breaking. Albumen sprays the area and the small embryo inside is dashed apart by the impact. The creature, without breaking stride, continues the chase. It continues its terrifying roar. The raging creature closes the distance and leaps, landing on one of the men with a sickening thud, and the sound of cracking bones. The bear continues after the other man, leaving a bloody heap in its wake. With its massive forepaw, it slaps the other man, sending him sprawling into the dirt. He screams and struggles to get to his feet. He does not get far before the creature is on him. The creature raises its massive body up, and brings it back down with another, even more excruciating thud, silencing the frantic yelling of the unfortunate human.

The creature continues to bat around the lifeless body, perhaps making sure it is lifeless. It then moves to the other, batting it around as well. The party can still hear a low rumble from the clearing. It is practically a growl from the creature. A mix of ebbing rage and sorrow. The creature abruptly stops, both its movement and the sound. It starts to rotate its head, like an owl, as if trying to discern a direction. Almost imperceptibly, the creature's head starts scanning the nearby forest. Just barely, Rothgar can hear a soft sound, like sniffing coming from the creature. It stops its subtle movement, and lets out another roar. The rage in its voice is apparent. Especially for Surallel, who is certain that the creature is looking directly at him when it shrieks. The creature charges. Please roll initiative. The creature will get a surprise round (the charge). Which I will roll after Initiatives are locked in. Battlemap tab will be Mammals vs Birds. Each member of the party is currently in Difficult Terrain. The creature is Large (long). To identify this creature Knowledge Arcana. If you wanted to roll for the previous arcana rolls, use the same roll for both, as they are related. I don't think anyone has anything like the Inquisitor's Monster Lore, where they get a bonus to the check to identify a monster.
DC 14{Spoiler}That is an Owlbear. It is a magical beast that is a crossbreed between an owl, and a bear. They are ferocious, apex predators. They are strong and prefer to fight with both claws and beak. Grabbing and holding prey with their claws, and ripping them apart with the beak. Their thick fur and hides provide them enough protection for them to go after more dangerous prey, even other predators. DC 19{Spoiler}Owlbears posses the strength versatility of bears, and the keen senses of owls. They have Scent, Darkvision, and high Perception. DC 24{Spoiler}Owlbears are very strong and hearty, possessing incredible fortitude. Their minds, however, are not much greater than those of animals, and their wills tend to be rather weak.

Surallel, quite jovially and ignoring the incredibly dire situation ahead, says unto the party "Ha ha ha, oh man! Would ANY of you believe this is not the first time this has happened to me?"
Surallel's jovial demeanor is quickly snuffed out and he lets out a fairly despondent sigh.1d20+7·1d20+1

The great beast charges straight toward Surallel, throwing its considerable bulk with impressive speed. With incredible momementum the creature's forelimb comes down with with bone shattering force. The rest of the party can feel the force of the blow. Surallel, however, stands tall despite the savagery of the attack. The creature still grips the defiant Surallel in its massive claws. Similar to the fight against the goblins, Darvan takes a low, bounding stance as he swiftly moves up to the creature as he draws his sword. Upon reaching the beast, his sword jabs out, looking to land a blow. Attack +6: +2 BAB, +3 Str, +1 MW Nnv1iYe31d20+6

Darvan's sword slashes at the great beast, but the creature's thick hair and skin foil the blade, sending it glancing off. The beast continues to grip Surallel, despite his struggles against it.

Tessa begins a song about a hero outwitting a monster, that she had heard in the taverns of Sofiholm. The party feels their courage become bolstered, and their weapons become sharper and more accurate.
